The Story of The Earth《中国地理图解》

by 刘兴诗 LIU Xingshi

For more than 70 years, Liu Xingshi, a famous geologist, has traveled all over China to conduct scientific investigations. Starting from his own scientific research experience, he wrote this popular science book on Chinese geography that everyone can understand.

The ordinary earth, mountains, rivers, lakes and seas all contain interesting geographical knowledge in the author’s opinion: how to know the age of the lake? – Dig out the mud at the bottom of the lake and count it. Is there really a paradise? – Of course, even primitive people like to live in paradise. What is the significance of the bronze altar in Sanxingdui? – Maybe it contains the ancient people’s understanding of earthquakes.

Geography is also closely related to our lives: did you know that the earth is getting heavier every day? Which statement is true? Why is the Qiantang River tide so spectacular? Why can’t you see the red cliff scenery depicted by Su Dongpo today?

Geography is not boring at all, but it is an interesting subject that can help us broaden our horizons. After reading this book, you will have a new understanding of the earth under your feet, the mountains, rivers, lakes and seas in your eyes, and you will also understand our world from a richer perspective.
