Chinese Music History: Based on Cultural Relics (Chinese-English E-Book with Music)
By Wu Zhao

Introduction:
This book is a groundbreaking hybrid publication that pairs a traditional paper book with Chinese-English E-Book With Music. This comprehensive work features more than 700 stunning images, and over 80 rare audio clips, offering a rich multimedia experience. Employing the innovative “triple evidence method,” the book delves into rigorous research and presents findings with exquisite detail,
including archaeological discoveries such as ancient musical instruments, pottery figures, artifacts, and extant instruments, as well as murals, paintings, sculptures, and historical texts. From the lens of music iconography, it provides a systematic and vibrant account of the resplendent history of Chinese music.
This work comprises three parts: “The Magical World of Music,” “The Awakening of Art,” and “From the Court to the Marketplace,” which respectively covers ancient music history through the Qin and Han dynasties, the musical histories of the Three Kingdoms through the Tang, and the developments in music from the late Tang to the Qing dynasty.
This book synthesizes research from music iconography, archaeology, history, and folk musicology to creatively investigate the listenable history of Chinese music. It showcases a vast array of archaeological instruments and performances by renowned musicians; many being published here for the first time. Readers can enhance their experience by scanning QR codes with their mobile phones or selecting entries in the electronic book to listen to the melodious sounds of ancient instruments while they read, bridging the gap between past and present in a symphony of words, images, and sound.
